Chandigarh, 14th March 2022: Defending champions Gurugram Masters – featuring two Indian-origin 3×3 specialists – underlined their class in  3BL Men’s Conference ‘A’, winning their third ‘Round’ title. ‘3BL’, the only 3X3 Professional Basketball League in India is backed by the Basketball Federation of India and the International Basketball Federation (FIBA). Gurugram Masters bt Mumbai Heroes 21-14 in the Finals

Facing off against nemesis Heroes, the only team to have beaten Masters in a Round so far, Masters knew they had to bring their ‘A’ game. The tense first half saw the two sides all locked up at 10 a-piece.

But as the saying goes, “defence wins championships”, and Gurugram’s defence put up a stupendous display to completely seal the basket for Mumbai.

With the scores tied at 10-10, Masters went on a massive 10-0 run – which is incredible considering that in the 3×3 format, the first team to reach 21 points wins the game.

Heroes were guilty of missing open two-point opportunities, while Masters were able to score both inside the paint and from the perimeter.

For his consistent showing throughout this Round, American Marcus James Hammonds II claimed his second Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

About 3×3 Basketball

Akin to the T20 version of cricket, 3×3 basketball is one of the fastest growing urban sports in the world.

Compared to traditional 5×5:

  • 3×3 needs only a half-court and six players.
  • It’s a 10-minute game.
  • Highest score in 10 minutes or first team to score 21 points wins.
  • Three-pointers are awarded two points, and two-pointers are awarded 1 point.

3×3 is not only FIBA’s second official discipline but was played for the first time at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, and will also be included in the Commonwealth Games – Birmingham 2022, Asian Games 2022 and the Paris 2024 Olympics.
